In the day and age that we are living, everyone needs to have their hands working on something for the better of their families and the nation at large.

About – Ikapa Western Cape

One of the best ways to have yourself empowered is through enrolling for a tertiary education course and make yourself a specialist in the area of your interests.

With that, the Western Cape Government has realised the financial needs that its citizens have, and so it designed an effective program to cater to their needs.

Through the Ikapa Study Loan, the Western Cape Government provides student loans to a large number of students who are enrolled or accepted by the Further Education Training (FET) colleges in the Western Cape region.

WHAT IS IKAPA STUDY LOAN?

Ikapa Study Loan is a tertiary education funding program that is run by the Western Cape government. It covers students who are enrolled with any of the FET colleges within Western Cape province. The Ikapa Study Loan is extended to students who are taking courses in business, agriculture, arts, languages and other selected areas.

The Ikapa Study Loans are available from West Coast College, North-link, Boland through to the Karoo areas. The emphasis is to empower the residents with relevant skills that they need for survival and economic development.

The Ikapa Study Loan is motivated by the view that everyone has an essential contribution that they can make and so they should be given opportunities.

WHAT DOES THE IKAPA STUDENT LOAN COVER?

Due to a large number of people who seek to be funded for their studies, there is continuous pressure on financial resources. With that, the Ikapa Study Loans are only made available in amounts that will cover only the fees for the student.

The students will need to have an alternative means to sustain themselves on accommodation, meals, transport and other related expenses. Our loans facilitate the ability of the students to attend lectures unimpeded.

IS THE IKAPA STUDENT LOAN REPAID?

The Ikapa Study Loans are meant to achieve a personal improvement on learners at the same time triggering social and economic development of the nation at large. This is why our repayment terms are a bit relaxed and manageable to a large number of applicants.

The Ikapa Study Loans are all supposed to be repaid in full. This does not only help the Western Cape government but also improve the younger generation to have access to funds for their education. For every loan that is repaid, there is more funding for the future generation.

DOES IKAPA STUDENT LOANS CONSIDER EDUCATIONAL RESULTS?

The Ikapa Study Loans indirectly consider your educational results, but your results will not be used to determine whether you obtain the loan or not.

The fact that you have been accepted to do a tertiary program with one of our FET colleges. This means that you are capable of completing your course, and that is where you qualify for our student loans.

However, the students are always encouraged to make sufficient commitments in their studies to enable the goal of the Ikapa Study Loan, which is to empower the society through education.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN THE IKAPA STUDY LOAN?

The Ikapa Study Loan takes a length which is similar to all other credit services issued in the country like personal loans, property finance and credit cards.

As a public programme, there is a need to open the chances to all the applicants, making the loan distribution fair and equitable. The application itself will take a few minutes to complete, and the longer time will be when the assessment starts.

Due to a large number of applicants, our credit team continually work under pressure. Your application will take an average of 2 weeks from application to disbursement.
